Leading the way towards open standards
Landis+Gyr is working closely with Iberdrola in the development of PRIME, an open and public Power-line Communication method based on OFDM technology supporting smart metering and smart grid applications.
The open standard will allow interoperability between devices of different manufacturers and systems, thereby aiding the evolution of technology and benefiting end-users through increased price competition.
“Our work with Iberdrola underscores our commitment to providing interoperable energy management solutions to the market. By working closely with our business counterparts, we can help our industry move towards an open energy market,” says Ad Van der Meys, Landis+Gyr Executive Vice President EMEA.
Landis+Gyr is involved in numerous workgroups and projects all designed to lead the effort of broadening open standards use in the energy industry. Our recent Advanced Metering Management (AMM) installations with EDRF in France meet the latest European standards. In the Netherlands, we have been working with manufacturers and utilities to create a Dutch norm which complies with national energy regulations and is largely based on existing IEC standards.
