Landis+Gyr wins Australia’s biggest Smart Meter Rollout

The contract awarding Landis+Gyr the vast majority of CitiPower and Powercor Australia’s total requirement represents the single biggest smart meter rollout to date in Australia. The deployment of Landis+Gyr’s innovative and proven smart metering technology will commence later this year.

The smart meters will enable a two-way flow of information between utilities and the end user, and feature an advanced digital meter with load limiting and remote service capability.

The meters can connect to home network devices, which will ultimately allow energy consumption information, real-time pricing signals and automated load management options to be sent to end users.

Landis+Gyr smart meters provide the opportunity for utilities to offer consumers a broad array of new pricing, demand response and energy automation options that enhance the efficiency and reliability of the electricity grid. Energy consumers benefit from more information, expanded choices, and simplified management of their energy while protecting the environment.

Steve Jeston, CEO, Landis+Gyr, Australasia said: “We are proud to partner with CitiPower and Powercor Australia for the single biggest smart meter rollout in Australia. CitiPower and Powercor Australia's selection of Landis+Gyr to supply the vast majority of their smart metering requirements means Victoria will have the leading product of its type in the marketplace today."

"The fact that these smart meters have been developed in Australia by our local R&D team makes us all the more proud,” Mr Jeston added.

Jon Stretch, Executive Vice President, Landis+Gyr, Asia Pacific, said: “The deployment of our smart meters is a significant milestone in helping consumers have greater control over their energy use and assist utilities in enhancing the management and reliability of the electricity grid to meet 21st century demand."

“As a worldwide leader in electricity metering, we are delighted to support CitiPower and Powercor Australia’s participation in Victoria’s global leading AMI Project, by providing electricity consumers with the technology that will support Victoria’s power infrastructure for years to come."

“The partnership between CitiPower, Powercor Australia and Landis+Gyr as a global leader in its field is one that will be good for the industry, good for end users and good for Victoria,” Mr. Stretch said.

CitiPower and Powercor Chief Executive Officer, Shane Breheny, said: “These combined agreements mark a major milestone on a project that will ultimately transform the way consumers use and think about electricity, and which will allow electricity distributors to manage the electricity supply more effectively and efficiently for decades to come.”
